During the awards ceremony at the 1st Annual Sustad Memorial Golf Classic, Carrie Sustad, Arden's widow, shared this message:

"Two years ago, this past June, Arden was diagnosed with ALS – a neurological disease that destroys neurons in the brain and spine leading to muscle loss throughout the entire body. Arden carried a gene linked to ALS and FTD (frontal temporal dementia). We had watched two of Arden’s brothers (Lyle and Gary) suffer from ALS and FTD - which eventually took their lives. It was a devastating diagnosis.

Arden’s mantras throughout this journey were

1. Glorify God

2. Adapt and overcome

Both were so evident in how he faced it with tenacity and trust in God.

As one of the first participants to qualify for a drug trial (Healy Platform Drug Trial), Arden had a passion for research and finding a cure for himself, his family and others. The ALS Association is the largest private funder for ALS research worldwide - $122 million. The ALS Association also supported us (and others) through equipment loans, advocacy/education, in-home care and emotional support.

As an avid conversationalist and athlete, it was difficult for our family to watch Arden lose his ability to talk, eat, run, bike, walk, move on his own and play with his grandsons. Although the average life span is from 2-5 years, Arden’s was a short 1 ½ years.

I miss how Arden’s presence, sense of humor and energy no longer fill up the room wherever he was. He had a passion to find a cure for ALS through clinical drug trials. This is why we're here, to further that research and assist current ALS patients through funding of the ALS Association local chapter. Thank you for supporting the Sustad families."

This year, Journey Technology Solution (Arden's former partners), along with Carrie Sustad, have set an aggressive goal to raise $55,000 in order to keep Arden's wish and passion for research and finding a cure ALIVE!
